**Whichever service you choose, make sure that the transmission filter is replaced, the type fluid recommended by the manufacturer is used, and the pan is dropped and inspected for any problems** While it depends how often you should have your transmission serviced, it also matters which service you choose. While a transmission fluid change focuses on draining the dirty fluid from the pan, a transmission flush gets rids of all the fluid in the pan, the cooler lines, as well as the torque converter. With that said, we will go ahead and explain the differences between a transmission flush vs fluid change.Īs you can tell by their names, a transmission flush and a fluid change are two completely different services. A good majority is actually inside the torque converter, up to 40% of the total volume. What’s the difference between a transmission flush vs fluid change you ask? And which is the more effective service? Before we explain what the differences are, you should remember that the transmission holds fluid within the transmission pan as well as the torque converter. If you don't know what a CVT is, google it to see how it's different than a geared automatic transmission. Understand that in this explanation they are speaking of a non CVT automatic transmission, so the mileages and the costs do not apply to us. ![]() Haven't had any problems and I did this las March after I bought my patriot. Just FYI I set my fluid level at 35mm with a slightly warmed up transmission. I'm sure it can also be done at a Nissan dealer because they use the exact same cvt. I'm hearing the Jeep dealers charge 300-400 to change the CVT fluid. It's not like changing the motor oil because there is no drain plug. Another clue might be if the fluid on a dipstick (and dipstick) looks new and green.Įither way I doubt the Ford dealer did it because it's recommended by the Jeepmanufacturer at 120,000 miles.and it's not a real quick procedure to change the CVT fluid. You don't really know, but a hint could be to look at the transmission pan and see if there is any evidence of it being removed, such a a cleaner look that the area around it, or cleaned pan screws or clean marks on them where the socket would have been used to remove and replace them. First, there is a difference between flushed and changed.
